USB PD3.1 DRP Controller
Description
The CY53781/CY53781H (CY53781(H)) is a highly integrated USB Type-C® PD3.1 Dual-Role Power (DRP) controller to support Extended Power Range (EPR) / Adjustable Voltage Supply (AVS) up to 36V and Standard Power Range (SPR) / Programmable Power Supply (PPS) up to 21V.
The CY53781(H) can play as a power consumer by requesting power from a PD3.1 compliant adaptor, and play as a power provider to supply devices equipped with Type-C connector. The CY53781(H) could consume as low as 50uA during the power down mode.
The CY53781(H) is operating in a system without MCU. To be a power consumer, its desired Request Data Object (RDO) can be selected by the corresponding resistance values for voltage and current on the VSEL and ISEL pins respectively. To be a power provider, its Power Data Object (PDO) capability can be selected from a pre-determined power profiles by a suitable resistance on the PDOSEL pin. The CY53781 and CY53781H have different selection tables of RDO and PDO, where CY53781 supports SPR/PPS range only, while CY53781H can cover EPR/AVS range up to 36V.
Meanwhile, the CY53781(H) integrates Rp/Rd termination resistors for DRP with QC2.0/3.0 functions and dead battery supported during the sink role, and VFB feedback for DC/DC controller during the source role. In addition, the CY53781(H) operates from 3.3V up to 36V with low side current sense topology.
Based on high-voltage process, the CY53781(H) offers VBUS short protection for CC1/CC2 pins up to 34V. The smart built-in firmware of the CY53781(H) offers comprehensive safety protection schemes, including over-voltage protection (OVP), under-voltage protection (UVP), over-current protection (OCP), and moisture detection between DP and DN.

Typical Applications Circuit
The CY53781(H) plays as a DRP controller after the power-on initialization. The CY53781(H) alternates periodically the Type-C CC1/CC2 pin connections between the pull-down resistance, Rd, and pull-up resistance, Rp.
The CY53781(H) is operating in a system without MCU as shown in Figure 1 below. When it plays as a power sink role, its desired RDO can be selected by the corresponding resistance values on the VSEL and ISEL pins for voltage and current respectively. When it plays as a power source role, its PDO capability can be selected from a pre-determined 8 power profiles by a suitable resistance on the PDOSEL pin.

Functional Block Diagram
The CY53781(H) block diagram is shown in Figure 2 as below, where the embedded MCU is used for the mainframe operation of this DRP controller. Both source and sink roles support USB PD3.1 and QC protocols.
